Our gourmet pretzels are going to be dipped in a mixture of semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips and then rolled in crushed OREO cookies. They are sweet and salty and just delish!

What do you need to make these Chocolate Gourmet Pretzels?

How do you make Chocolate Covered Pretzels?

This is very easy to do, even if you’re never worked with melted chocolate before.

A dozen pretzel rods on wax paper on a cookie sheet.

Cover a cookie sheet with wax paper to lay the pretzels down. I find wax paper works better to release the chocolate-covered treats than parchment paper.

Crushed OREO cookies in a light yellow bowl.

Crush the OREO cookies in a blender or food processor until they are all crumbs. Pour into a bowl and set aside.

A mixture of milk chocolate and semi sweet chocolate chips before melting in a glass bowl.

Mix together the semi sweet and milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl.

Then, heat them in 30-second increments on HIGH in the microwave. Stir after each time you heat them. Don’t skip this step!

Mixing up the melted chocolate in a glass bowl.

Then, continue heating and stirring for 30 seconds at a time, until the chocolate chips are completely melted and smooth.

If they seem gloppy, you can add a teaspoon of shortening, or my personal favorite is these Paramount flakes, which are oil flakes. I add a pinch at a time and stir them up, until the chocolate is smooth like honey.

Dipping the pretzels in melted chocolate in a glass bowl.

Dip about about half or 2/3rds of the pretzel into the chocolate. Then gently tap it on the side of the bowl to get rid of any excess chocolate.

Lay the pretzel rod on the wax paper and move onto the next pretzel rod and dip it in chocolate.

If you are adding anything extra to the pretzels like sprinkles or crushed OREO cookies, dip 3 to 4 pretzels and then add the topping while the chocolate is still wet.

Three pretzels dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with OREO cookies.

To add the OREO cookie crumbs, sprinkle them on top of the pretzels and on the sides. Gently roll the pretzel in the excess on the sides and then let it dry.

When you’ve finished all the pretzels, pop the cookie sheet into the freezer for 10-15 minutes to quickly harden the chocolate.

When the chocolate is completely hardened, if you’re going to set them out for a party, store them in a gallon-size zipper baggie until you’re ready to serve them.

If you’re giving them as gifts, place each pretzel in a pretzel bag.
